Sahara India Commercial Corporation Ltd, a troubled arm of the Sahara Group, has asked India’s Supreme Court for permission to sell 88 key properties to the Adani Group.
This step aims to gather about ₹12,000 crore. The funds would pay back investors. The court ordered this in a 2014 case against market watchdog SEBI. Reports say the Supreme Court set a hearing for November 17, 2025. It asked the Finance Ministry, Corporate Affairs Ministry, and SEBI to reply.
These court steps tie into the ongoing Sahara-SEBI clash. Back in 2012, the Supreme Court ruled Sahara must return over ₹24,000 crore. The money came from optionally fully convertible debentures sold to investors through SEBI. Sahara firms owe around ₹25,000 crore plus 15% yearly interest.
Sahara plans to offload 88 sites across India to Adani in one big deal worth about ₹12,000 crore. Here are four top assets from Sahara scattered nationwide.
- Aamby Valley City, Maharashtra
This spreads over 10,000 acres near Lonavala, a Maharashtra hill spot. Aamby Valley City ranks as one of India’s biggest luxury gated communities. Sahara dreamed it up in the mid-1990s. They bought land from nearby villages. It opened about 20 years back. You find fancy private villas, an airstrip, golf course, and eateries there. Tourists stay in many villas and cottages.
Famous Indian athletes often head to the private valley for its golf course.
- Hotel Sahara Star, Mumbai
It sits just outside Terminal 1 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. The hotel’s site calls it a five-star spot with over 300 rooms and more than 20 suites. This luxury place started running two decades ago. Its spot keeps rooms full most times. - Sahara Shaher, Lucknow
Sahara Shaher covers 170 acres in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar. Builders made it a high-end haven with villas, a helipad, theaters, and halls. In the past, India’s top folks used it—politicians, movie stars, business leaders.
But last week, Lucknow Municipal Corporation locked all six gates. They pointed to lease rule breaks. This move seized the site, leased to Sahara India Commercial Corporation.
