Congress claimed on Monday, December 29, 2025, that mining alone will not ruin the Aravallis. Real estate growth pushed by Rajasthan’s double-engine government will wreck the ecosystem more. They called it already destroyed.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary and ex-environment minister, said this ignores Forest Survey of India advice.
As India waits for Supreme Court orders on the Aravallis, new proof shows the updated definition will harm the broken ecosystem.
The double-engine setup in Delhi and Jaipur now allows real estate, not just mining. This goes against Forest Survey of India warnings, Ramesh posted on X.
Congress fights the Aravallis redefinition. They warn it will ruin the hills with mining, homes, and other work.
The Supreme Court took up the Aravalli definition fight on its own. It will hear the case on December 29, 2025.
On November 20, the top court set one definition for Aravalli hills and ranges. It stopped new mining permits in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat until expert reports come.
The court used a Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change team idea. This guards the planet’s oldest mountains.
The team said an Aravalli Hill means any raised land in key districts over 100 meters above nearby ground. An Aravalli Range means two or more hills within 500 meters.
